Homer's Job

One day Homer doesn't wake up at seven like he normally does. In fact, he doesn't get up until noon. It's a workday so he's expected at the plant. When he doesn't show up, Mr Burns gets very angry. Even though there is no one at the plant to replace Homer, Mr Burns decides to fire him. Smithers calls Homer and tells him not to bother coming to work the next day. Lucky for Homer, Marge is out shopping so she doesn't find out right away.

Homer hates his job so he doesn't really mind losing it. But he decides not to tell Marge yet. He doesn't want her to know that the family won't be able to afford any fancy food or trips anymore. He worries that Marge will yell at him for getting fired and he's probably right. There is no way he could explain this to her without sounding like a complete moron. Also, Marge would probably make him go back and ask for his job back. This could actually work, but Homer is too proud to beg.

Homer spends the rest of the afternoon watching TV and eating donuts. When Marge gets back from the mall, Homer locks himself in the basement so that she doesn't find him. He keeps hiding for the rest of the day. Marge finally catches him getting beer from the fridge and asks him what's going on. He's supposed to still be at work so what the hell is he doing sneaking around the house?

Eventually Homer tells Marge the truth about getting fired and being afraid to tell her. He blames the alarm clock but Marge says it's his own fault for not fixing it when it stopped working a month ago. Anyway, once Marge gets over her shock she forgives Homer. But she tells him he needs to figure out a way to bring home some money or else they'll have nothing to eat. Homer suggests that he could join the Mafia but Marge doesn't think so.
